General Information on Module Exams
The BBKA recommends that you have at least 2 years’ experience of beekeeping before you attempt to sit a module exam.
The module exams take place in March and November of each year and you can apply to sit a maximum of 2 per session; 4 per year.
The module exams can be sat “Online” or “In Person.” If you apply for more than one exam they must be both “Online” or “In Person.” You cannot mix them.
The “Online” and “In Person” exams start at the same time, have the same questions, and have the same time limit of 100 minutes (1hr and 40mins).
You can sit them in any order BUT you can only apply for Module 8 after you have passed all other 6 modules.
The exam results are emailed to the candidates:-
- November exams – 3rd week of January
- March exams – 3rd Week of May
Online
You will need access to a computer with a webcam and a microphone and also have a reliable broadband connection. At a minimum the operating system for the computer must be either:-
- Windows 10 (Version 21H1) for PC
- OS 10.15 (Big Sur) for Mac
The following systems are not supported:-
- Google Chromebook
- Microsoft Windows 7
- Apple iPad
- Android tablets
- Linux based computers.
You will be required to install and test the “Inspera Exam Portal” on your computer by a deadline date prior to the exam. The software will lock down your computer during the exam. An online invigilator will monitor you via your webcam and microphone which will remain active during the exam.
The BBKA Exams and Assessment Secretary (examinations@bbka.org.uk) is responsible for the administration of “Online” exams.

In Person
The written exam will be taken at a BBKA exam centre, for YBKA members this will be at the YBKA Pavillion, Harrogate. Directions are <HERE>.
The exam will be taken at a desk, under exam conditions and an invigilator will supervise the exam.
You will sent details confirming time, date, and confirming location of the exam by email.
Our YBK Education Officer (education@ybka.org.uk) is responsible for the administration of “In Person” exams.
